Our Global Work
Chile. “My name is Leidy Cardona: chef and owner of Leidylicious Cakes. I graduated in 2005 in culinary art and restaurant management, where I only took one semester of pastry making and completely fell in love with this beautiful art.
Even though I have always cooked food with salt, I am always investigating other ways to prepare desserts. For all kinds of events and birthdays, I always offered my services to my friends and acquaintances. When I least thought I had a business of sweets, people were already seeking me out to make their events and celebrations sweet experiences. Even though I graduated in culinary art, I have always had faults in the family department, in savings, and in promoting my product. I was not maintaining a well-balanced life with regards to these most important areas. By taking the MBS course, I was helped a lot in learning that family should have a very important place in my life and that savings are fundamental. For me, it was an excellent opportunity to learn all that they taught us in this Master of Business in the Streets. Thank you to every single person who was a part of forming this marvelous program which is a huge help to all of us.”
Mexico. Fernando Mena Ruiz is from Ciudad Juarez, Mexico. He has always tried to create a business but unfortunately he did not have the knowledge he needed in order to manage his business and expanses. He opened a store for which he had a lot of supplies but once again things did not work out. It wasn’t until he found the MBS course that he learned how to keep track of his inventory, learned how to save money and use his money wisely.
While taking the MBS course, Fernando decided to try starting a new business one last time. He bought pallets to sell. He had high hopes for his business and trusted that he now had the knowledge he once lacked so he bought a new freezer where he would be able to store the pallets in big quantities. He started advertising his product to his neighbors and was able to find a lot of success. His business has grown a lot since he first started it and he keeps seeing progress. He attributes his success to the things he learned in the MBS program with his success ambassador, Noemi Salazar. As Fernando says, “it is better to fail when trying to succeed, than to not succeed because of fear of failure.”
USA. My name is Flor Alba Gillingham. I was born in Puerto Lleras, Colombia but was raised in Valle del Cauca, in Colombia. At the moment I am living in Montana, USA. Despite having had many challenges throughout my life, I have been abundantly blessed, and one of these blessings is a very good friend of mine, who gave me the idea and encouraged me to do the MBS course — a business training and self-reliance program that teaches how to run your own business, improve your home life, and work on your community to help it grow.
I have been working as an English teacher for more than 27 years, and have been tutoring on my own for about 10 years. Last year I started giving classes online and the knowledge I acquired through the MBS has helped me see this as a business, identify its strengths and weaknesses, and more importantly find a way to improve it.
Along with providing me a wider perspective of what I do for a living, the MBS provided me encouragement to reevaluate my lifestyle and to commit to do the necessary changes to improve it, find various ways to save, and reconnect with something I have always loved doing: serving others.
In order to complete the program, I carried a service project where I made bread in order to provide food for people in the streets. On November 2nd I put my plan in motion. My husband and I had previously noticed that there are always people around the courthouse in my city so we decided to go there. At first I was nervous because I didn’t know how they would react but, once we started, a peaceful and rewarding feeling filled our hearts and the desire to keep serving grew stronger. We then decided to contact the Poverello Center so that they can become a helpful bridge.
I just want to express my special thanks to those that were right beside me and helped me complete this new step in my life.
Brazil. Sidnei do Nascimento who lives in the city of Anápolis, Brazil, is going to carry out an old project thanks to the MBS course. He also became a Success Ambassador and intends to take this project to more people who want to realize their dreams.
“My name is Sidnei do Nascimento and I am a Portuguese Language Teacher and have a Masters degree in Education and Science. The MBS course has had a great impact on my life because I have always wanted to have my own business, but I didn’t have a direction on how to start it. I have failed many times. Through understanding the 6 P’s of business I came across an old dream. A while ago I created a school for human development called A.S.A.S. School of Winners. I found the MBS course to be a very important project that leads us to make improvements in the eight areas of our lives, which leads to a complete change. I also finished the Success Ambassador training, and I now have the mission to bring knowledge to as many people as possible, so that they can also achieve self-reliance through this wonderful course.”
Brazil. Francisco Andrey from Curitiba, Brasil, put in practice the teaching from the MBS course. Now he is able to save money, spend more time with his family, sort out his priorities, and is ready to open a school where he plans to grow even more as a Success Ambassador teaching everyone the MBS program.
“My name is Francisco Andrey Ádamo and I work as an Assistant in a business where I am a Financial Management and Theology student. I have always dreamed of having a technical school but I didn’t have much knowledge on how to do it. When I found Interweave Solutions I realized that my dream would come true. The MBS showed me how I can break barriers and achieve success step by step.
During the course my head was rushing with ideas and I decided now to waste any more time and put into practice everything that I was learning. I started saving money, learned how to manage my time, separate what is a priority in my life, be more present with my family, and make notes of my expenses and income. Now I am ready to open my school and I plan to teach the MBS course to others.
The best part of it all was having the support of Interweave Solutions. I felt valued because, in every call, my mentor would always encourage me to finish my project, and she also showed me how I can make a difference as a Success Ambassador. Now it’s time to follow the path as a Success Ambassador and help others have a life of self-reliance.”
Brazil. “My name is Bianca Rodrigues, I live in Goiânia GO Brazil, I have a degree in Pedagogy with specialization in Psychopedagogy and I am currently attending a graduate school in Social Psychology and Anthropology at Faculdade Metropolitana de Ribeirão Preto. I have been through five pregnancies, but unfortunately, due to cytomegalovirus problems, medical errors, and spontaneous abortion, I lost four babies, a boy and three girls. I lived many moments of loneliness, hopelessness, physical and emotional pain, and also helplessness. At that time, my son was held back in school, and also lived several moments of sadness, depression and hopelessness. I am currently married, but have been through two divorces that left my son and I financially helpless.
I am now 50 years old and have always tried to subsidize my financial life through my work, but I have failed. My only son, who has managed to survive these difficulties, is now 33 years old. Because of my inability to support myself and also my son, I have caused him an insecurity that keeps him away from me and makes him believe that I am not capable of providing for us. He currently lives with my mother and trusts her a lot. But this causes me great suffering, a huge feeling of failure and impotence. No matter how much I have looked for new opportunities in the job market, I have failed time after time, which causes me more suffering and feelings of disapproval as a woman, mother and human being capable of maintaining her own life, financially speaking.
I have already invested in courses, lectures, conferences, and many books trying to be well with myself and to be successful in my profession as a pedagogist, but everything has been a failure on a financial level. I went through many necessities, restrictions, and suffered deeply hearing my son say he was hungry and I didn’t have a single penny to give him at that moment. There were many hopeless years and I felt very angry at myself, at life, at God, and at my parents for being better than me at financially supporting my son.During this time I was working in a private school, but my income was not enough to provide for both of us, not even to maintain the basics. All this caused me a lot of pain and an overwhelming feeling of helplessness, and these traumatic moments of loss have also contributed to my emotional and financial imbalance. I know what it is like to feel my stomach burning with hunger, seeing various establishments around me selling food when I couldn’t feed myself because I did not have enough money for it.During this journey I met Cynthya Freitas who became a great friend. A while ago, in a time of great need, she offered me material help, and recently, she introduced me to Interweave Solutions’ MBS course.
Self-reliance is all that I have ever sought for my life and for my family, and it was with great satisfaction that I finished the first phase of the MBS course. I feel that I am starting a new phase of success in my life, because I intend to put into practice everything I have learned in each unit of the course. I intend to organize myself financially, save every day “even if it’s just one or two coins”, improve my quality of life, take notes, plan, and above all, seek support in self-reliance groups as well as the support of the Interweave Solutions team. I feel that the next steps will come with the hope that from this moment on I will be able to achieve self-reliance and will also be able to teach several people how to achieve it for themselves. I will make my failure my success, and maybe that of many people as well. I have a great interest in working with groups and I want to start the Success Ambassador training as soon as possible. I want to show this path of success to other people as soon as the pandemic allows. After all, everyone deserves to succeed, everyone has skills and talents that need to be developed. This is my goal as Success Ambassador for Interweave Solutions.”
Peru. Carlos is one of our Success Ambassadors from Peru. He has grown a lot since finishing both the MBS and the Success Ambassador courses. Here is how the MBS course helped him create his own business.
“After finishing the MBS program, I have learned new tools, which I consider to be very useful in order to appropriately negotiate and manage a business. We learned how to set goals, prioritize, and find balance in our lives through the Quality of Life Wheel. As a result of finishing the MBS program, I started the process of forming a new business, a company dedicated to training and consultation. Currently, I find myself in the phase of making and presenting the required documents for the state so I can establish it. My goal is that through this business, the locals in my city can be trained and acquire the necessary knowledge to improve their employment and financial situation, and by so doing, improve the conditions of our community and city. On the other side of things, I am also carrying out volunteer activities. For example, I am part of the program, “Free to Create Opportunities,” which fulfills the call for locals to donate books they no longer use that are in good condition. They are sent, organized, and distributed to different schools. I also formed part of the group Scout 167 – San Josemaria, attended by boys and girls from age 7 to 21. Through the scout movement, they are taught in playful ways about values, teamwork, and community service. It is a volunteer activity, very exhausting to be sure, but gratifying because it allows us to work with the younger generation and find ways to improve things in our community through them. I consider it to be my way of leaving a legacy for our society and trying to make the world a better place for the next generation.”
Benin. Charbel is one of our Success Ambassador Mentors from Benin. He received his Master of Business in the Streets (MBS) certificate in 2020, and 3 months after becoming a Success Ambassador he started his own MBS group. After 3 months of hard work, each of his participants received their own MBS certificate and were able to have a graduation ceremony on January 16th, 2021. We are beyond excited for Charbel and each of his 20 MBS graduates!
Most of Charbel’s participants are students but were still willing to take the course. The group met every Saturday for 3 months and everyone would always come prepared, ready, and focused to learn how to become self-reliant. From the second month on, each of the participants started their own business and started earning real income. Charbel was so excited to see his students progress that he would go to each of the participant’s homes to see how they were doing and if they needed his help. Charbel says that they spent those 3 months as a family and will be a family forever.
Democratic Republic of Congo. John is the owner of a company in the Democratic Republic of Congo. He works in the commercial industry selling vehicles, clothing, and providing event services. He is a Success Ambassador that wants to encourage everyone to take the MBS course.
Through the MBS course he found a way to improve his business that has brought him great success. His company did not keep Income and Expense Logs, which is used to keep track of money earned and spent. Whenever he had a family emergency, for example, he would take money from his company since he didn’t have a salary. Because of this, he never saw much improvement with his business. It wasn’t until he took the MBS course that he realized the importance of keeping track of his income and expenses and of separating his money from the company’s money. John saw a complete change in his business since implementing this principle, and the turnover increased remarkably in just one month.
In his words, “I want to encourage all new MBS students and those who are interested in taking the course to not hesitate because it really is the path that leads to success, autonomy, and stability. The MBS course is a great program because it helps everyone even if we have nothing; It reminds us that we have a talent to cultivate and it helps us become businessmen.”
Brazil. Emanoele Santos is a 18 years old high school student who lives in the city of Padre Bernardo, Brazil. Even being so young, she is already running after her dream; to be a hairdresser and have her own beauty parlor. Emanoele took the MBS course and as a result she is now more confident and knows how to better manage and organize her business. Also, she has improved many areas of her personal life by applying the principles of the Quality of Life Wheel, which she learned in the MBS course. We believe in Emanoele’s talent and determination and this is her success story written by her.
“My name is Emanoele dos Santos Barros Coelho, I am 18 years old and I live in Padre Bernardo, Brazil. I am a freshman in High School, and I was introduced to the MBS course at Interweave Solutions by the Success Ambassador, Josinaldo Oliveira. I decided to take the course to learn how to become more self-reliant and to develop tools to help me be more organized in my business. I am a hairdresser and this course has helped me to have control over my Business as well as improve other areas of my life, outside of work. The experience was very good, and today I have control of my business and my personal life, something that I did not have before. I am more confident, and I want to share what I have learned with other people, so that they also get this knowledge through the MBS course. I now feel more capable and better prepared to manage my own business.”
